Social media moves fast, and sometimes, it’s hard to keep up. There are so many posts to scroll through and countless links to click on. If a feed gets too dull, it’s easy to unfollow. How do you prevent that from happening to your social pages?

Keep it interesting! We always preach changing up your content and offering a mix of self-promotion and valuable information. It’s your job to help followers learn information, not only about your business but about your industry as a whole. After all, an educated consumer is a valuable asset.

You may think that you already vary your content, but we’re here to help you take it to the next level. Not only is it important to change up content, but also your presentation. Here are five fresh ideas to help keep followers interested and increase your engagement.

1.     Go Behind The Scenes – This may seem obvious, but businesses never do it often enough. And it’s so easy! Take a quick pic of your employees hard at work. Got a new piece of equipment? Show it off! Are you having a department huddle? A group photo makes a great social media post. Not only does it help clients get to know who works for your company, but seeing people working together in a happy environment makes people feel good about doing business with you.

2.     Take A Poll – Any time you can invite interaction is a good time! And Instagram Stories are the perfect place. You can use polls in a more serious fashion, like asking followers their opinion about new products or potential changes to your company. Or, have some more fun with it like, what should our CEO have for lunch? You’d be surprised at how many people like to weigh in on silly questions. Not sure how it’s done? Here’s an easy tutorial.

3.     Offer A Fun Fact – It’s so easy to find fun facts about any industry. Own a bakery? Tell us something interesting about bread. Are you a builder? Share an article about the evolution of how bricks are made. Are you a social media manager? Wait, that’s us;) Ok, here goes . . . Did you know that the most liked post in Facebook history was a photo posted by Nick Vujicic, a New York Times best-selling author? It’s been liked over 15 million times. See it here.

4.     Throwback Thursday – You’d think people would be over Throwback Thursday by now. But believe it or not, #TBT gets some of the highest engagement out of any posts for our clients. And it’s a great resource to keep in your back pocket, especially when you don’t know what to post. All you need to do is dig out an old photo and voilà! You’ve got yourself a Throwback Thursday.

5.     Rare Industry Holidays – Now, this is my personal favorite—and the best resource to find these elusive holidays is NationalToday.com. Did you know that Thanksgiving is also National Parfait Day? And that Christmas is also Nation Pumpkin Pie Day? Not to mention that Valentine’s Day falls on National Clean Out Your Computer Day. Scroll through the calendar for the entire year, and we’ll guarantee that you’ll find industry holidays that you’ve NEVER heard of. The celebrations are endless!
